When you need complex parts at affordable prices, you need a machine shop with cutting edge technology to get the job done at the highest quality. Our 5-axis part machining capabilities allow us to manufacture complex parts faster and more cost-effectively than 3- or 4-axis machining. We can also manufacture parts that are only possible with 5-axis machining.
You don't have to worry about us not giving you a quote, because we have the ability to solve the toughest machining challenges.
What is five-axis machining?
While 3-axis and 4-axis machines can be used to create simple parts without any deep pockets, they cannot provide the sophisticated technology that 5-axis machines provide. Of course the cost also varies. While the tool moves up and down the Z axis, a 3-axis machine only moves the part in two directions, the X and Y axes. A 4-axis machine operates on the same axes as a 3-axis machine, but adds rotation about the X-axis (called the A-axis).
However, 5-axis CNC machines rotate on two axes, A and B, which allow the tool to reach the part from all directions, increasing machining speed and accuracy. In some cases, we can also use a 4-axis machine with an indexer to achieve the 5-axis capabilities needed to machine complex parts.
5-axis machining improves cost and lead time
In addition to machining complex features, our 5-axis machining capabilities help us reduce costs and lead times for our customers. That's it: reduce setup time. An important factor that affects part pricing is setup time, or how long it takes to prepare the machine before run time begins. Since the 5-axis machine can move and rotate parts without human intervention, setup time is greatly reduced, while also reducing costs and lead times for our customers.
Bending angle dimension is less than 45 degrees. When the part is bent, the 3D feature cuts in at a narrow angle, requiring special tools. While 3-axis machines can achieve angles less than 45 degrees, only 5-axis machines have the rotational capability to machine bends up to 45 degrees.
Ports drilled at different angles. 5-axis port maximizes 3-axis capability for faster, higher quality machining. The 3-axis technology starts by drilling the port as far as possible, then transitions to a 5-axis tool that can better manipulate various angles.
Features of part facets. If a part has features on multiple sides, it may benefit from 5-axis machining. With one setup, a 5-axis machine can process all faces in one operation, so you can get parts faster.
