Summary of cutting methods for CNC milling parts

Milling cutters can use different tool guide styles when cutting the plane and sides of the workpiece, called cutting methods. There are nine cutting methods.

(1) Reciprocating cutting method of CNC milling machine. The distance between two parallel cutting toolpaths is one step. The head of one tool guide and the tail of the other tool guide are connected by a stepping tool guide. The stepping tool path and the cutting tool path are on the same level. Tool guide. Reciprocating cutting methods include up and down milling.

(2) One-way cutting method of CNC milling machine. The one-way cutting method is that the knife cuts from one end to the other in a straight line, then lifts the knife back every other step, and then cuts from one end to the other. The cutting direction is the same for each cutting toolpath. Each cutting toolpath has an approach toolpath, an approach toolpath, and a retract toolpath. There is only one way to cut in one direction.

(3) One-way contour cutting method of CNC milling machine. The one-way contour cutting tool path has three segments, the long straight segments are parallel to each other, the cutting direction is the same, and the steps are one step apart. There is a short tool path at each end of the long cutting segment. The shape of the short toolpath is the same as the profile of the side of the workpiece, which can be straight or curved. The span of a short toolpath is one step.

Each unidirectional contour cutting tool path has an approach path, an entry path, and an exit path. Using the rapid movement of the tool, the starting point of the previous cutting toolpath and the next cutting toolpath is retracted. The connection, approaching toolpaths, entry toolpaths, exit toolpaths and rapid traverse toolpaths are not on the same level. Two short tool guides make up for the shortcomings of one end of the reciprocating cutting method and the two ends of the unidirectional cutting method. (4) The CNC milling machine adopts the peripheral cutting method. The following cutting method is the tool path of the outer ring and inner ring. The shape of the outermost ring conforms to the contour shape of the workpiece boundary. The distance between two adjacent toolpaths is one step. (6) The CNC milling machine follows the cutting method of the workpiece. (7) Contour cutting method of CNC milling machine. Contour cutting is used for semi-finishing and finishing of side walls. (8) Standard drive cutting method of CNC milling machine. The standard drive cutting mode has the same function as the contour cutting mode, the difference is that the tool paths of the contour cutting mode cannot intersect; the tool paths of the standard drive cutting mode can intersect.

(9) Hybrid cutting method of CNC milling machine. After the workpiece is roughed, several cutting regions are generated. These areas are cut through several cutting methods, known as hybrid cutting methods. The hybrid cutting method reciprocates, follows the periphery, and follows the workpiece. Three cutting methods are used for different cutting areas of the workpiece.
