What is the difference between 3d printing and cnc processing

3d printing and cnc processing are one of the common ways to make prototypes, but for many people, they don't know the difference between them, so, next, the editor of Xiehe cnc processing factory will briefly introduce 3d What is the difference between printing and cnc processing?

1. The processing principle is different: 3D printing adopts the principle of layered accumulation, that is, the material first forms a layer under the action of the laser, and then superimposes the second layer on top of it, and so on, until the complete prototype is printed, just sla The material is in a liquid state, while the sls processing material is in a powder state; the principle of CNC machining is that the machining tool of the CNC machine tool engraves on the raw material according to a certain path under the instructions of the program, and the prototype of the prototype is produced.

2. The processing range is different: the materials processed by 3D printing are mainly plastic materials, such as photosensitive resin, abs, etc., and its processing range is relatively limited, generally not exceeding 600mm. If it is larger than this size, it needs to be disassembled for printing. The cost of such a large prototype is also very high. If you think about it, 3D printing is charged according to the weight of the raw materials. Such a large prototype requires a lot of raw materials. The material processed by CNC is relatively wide, and it can process almost all plastics and metals (such as stainless steel, aluminum alloy, etc.), and its stroke is relatively large, at least more than 1 meter, like the gantry machine tool, the processing range can even be The entire processing range is two to three meters.

3. The characteristics of the molded prototypes are different: because the materials used in 3D printing are liquid, the characteristics of the 3D printed prototypes are not as good as those processed by CNC. In terms of strength, the strength of the 3D printed prototype is relatively poor, and it is easy to crack even if a screw is screwed on it; in terms of high temperature resistance, the PC prototype processed by CNC will not deform at a high temperature of 90 degrees, while the 3D printed one will not deform at a high temperature of 90 degrees. It will be deformed at 60 degrees. Since the CNC prototype is processed directly on the plate, it has better characteristics in all aspects.

4. The accuracy is different: the 3D printed prototype is rough and has low precision; while the CNC processed prototype has high precision, generally can reach plus or minus ten wires, and the metal prototype processed by high-speed drilling and tapping center can achieve high accuracy up to 0.05mm.

The above is the difference between 3D printing prototype and CNC processing prototype, I hope it can be helpful to you. If you want to know more about cnc processing, or customers who want to customize precision parts, please call Xiehe cnc processing factory, we will serve you wholeheartedly.
